Peter Hutt Counselling Worthing, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth Bristol & around the UK via Zoom. Helping you make your life better.

Counselling is more 'normal' than you think.

Some people think that counselling is for those who've been through some kind of major trauma. Perhaps someone close to them has died, or they've had an abusive relationship or been through a messy divorce.

Of course counselling is for people in situations like these. But it's also for people who have things on their mind, feel troubled but can't quite work out why, or are living with a sense of unease that they never quite seem able to shake off.

It might be to do with your family, your relationships, your work or your childhood. It could simply be about who you are or who you have become. Counselling is particularly for you if you're dealing with those feelings in ways that are starting to worry you and those close to you.

Perhaps that glass of wine in the evening is becoming a few glasses, or even a bottle, or more. The tub of ice cream is no longer just an occasional treat. You fill time with internet shopping, or online betting. Maybe gaming has become too big a part of your life, or what used to be the odd line of coke with friends has become a confidence booster before going out. Or you are beginning to order extra pills off the internet because the prescription is no longer enough. Whatever it is you do to try and escape from your troubles, your life doesn't have to carry on being that way.

Sometimes life gets tough and it's hard to cope.

This does not necessarily mean you have a mental 'disorder'. You're simply reacting in a very normal way to the stress of life in a world full of high expectations.

I have a special interest in gambling, gaming, drug use, problem drinking, alcohol abuse and all types of addiction.

But whatever is getting in the way of your life and wellbeing I will listen and we can explore it together.
Some of the issues I have worked with recently are:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Bereavement, bullying
  • Stress of being a carer
  • Domestic violence, abuse
  • Low self-confidence
  • Low self-esteem
  • Relationship issues
  • Sexuality
  • General stress, trauma
  • Suicidal thoughts and feelings
  • Work-related stress

I will work with anyone who I honestly think I can help.
